Biography

Dr. Jalin B. Johnson serves as University of Massachusetts Global’s inaugural Vice Chancellor of Equity & Inclusion and Diversity Officer, overseeing the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

In addition to being a founding member of the university’s Institutional Review Board (IRB, Dr. Johnson served as Professor of Business and Organizational Leadership and Faculty for the School of Education Doctoral program. She has worn many hats since joining Chapman University College in 2008. She was also a founding member of UMass Global’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Steering Committee, where she championed a collaborative approach to improving outcomes for the university. She also created the Annual Diversity & Inclusiveness Forum, hosted by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) UMass Global virtual branch, where she served as the inaugural Diversity Chair.

As a former member of UMass Global’s Adjunct Faculty and as operations program manager, Dr. Johnson supported the university’s Doctor of Education program development. While serving on university curriculum teams, she developed diversity cognizant curriculum, delivered international presentations, and facilitated sessions on the use of multiple modalities in course curriculum– emphasizing accessibility and perceptions of justice, equity, diversity & inclusion (JEDI).

Dr. Johnson’s work in publications include the National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID), where she is a Diversity Scholars Network member; The International Journal of Diversity in Education where you will find her Experience Context & Perspective (ECP) framework, the ‘Looking at Leadership’ series; and various international conference publications, where she also serves as a Review Board member.

Throughout her 25 years in higher education, Dr. Johnson has demonstrated her dedication to life-long learning, faculty mentorship, and social justice. Over the years, she has earned many accolades, including UMass Global’s Chancellor’s Award for Excellence (2013), the School of Business Faculty of the Year Award (2015), and the Overall Faculty of the Year Award (2017). She earned her MBA from the University of Redlands and her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne. She is a long-standing member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a community volunteer.
