Brandman University: Standing together against racism

April 21, 2021

The following content first appeared on the news page while UMass Global operated under its former name of Brandman University.

Throughout the past year, we have repeatedly affirmed that Brandman University stands for a peaceful and equitable society and against intolerable acts of violence and racism. In the wake of the verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was charged with the murder of George Floyd, we reiterate this message.

Brandman strives to create a fully inclusive, anti-racist university culture. It is incumbent upon all of us to do what we can to support one another as we collectively and continuously confront racialized police violence and hate crimes against members of Black, brown, and minoritized communities.

We have a responsibility to embrace cultural humility and to promote compassion towards our fellow human beings. This requires that we first acknowledge the history of social injustice and the public health crisis in our country, which is racism. Together, we can create lasting value by acknowledging the long-standing pain held within many of the communities we serve. By upholding these truths and supporting our university community, we will do better and be better.

We are committed to building upon university resources that address equity, mental health, and racial trauma. Enhancing a community that supports healing as we move forward together to a better future, we look to organizations leading the way in these efforts, to help us grow and build as a community.
