IRVINE, Calif. (March 28, 2020) – Brandman University will host a free webinar, “Women in GIS: Social Justice,” with GIS analyst Sophia Garcia for viewers who are interested in careers in geographic information systems, also known as GIS.
Garcia works as a GIS analyst for the Dolores Huerta Foundation, a Bakersfield-based nonprofit.
GIS is a field blending geography with data analysis. GIS analysts who use software to add information to maps can discover patterns showing how people are affected by the natural and built environments. GIS can also reveal how human activities affect particular geographies.
In her webinar, Garcia is scheduled to discuss such topics as women who use GIS and career paths for young people entering the field.
Brandman is hosting the webinar in partnership with Women in GIS, a professional and social advocacy group.
The webinar is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon PDT on Monday, March 30. Register here.
