Science of Obesity course | UMass Global

This course covers the role of diet and exercise in weight loss and body weight maintenance as well as metabolic and physiological changes occurring during weight loss and gain.

Science of Obesity Course Overview

The Science of Obesity course is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider Number 15531) for 45 contact clock hours. It is equivalent to 45 CPEU for the Commission on Dietetic Registration/American Dietetic Association and 0.3 CEU for National Academy of Sports Medicine.This course satisfies requirements of the undergraduate Nutrition and Wellness Certificate.

As a student, you will: 

  • Learn the current trends in obesity and the relationship between body weight, obesity and disease risk.
  • Study the research comparing popular diets used for weight loss and disease treatment along with recommendations for optimal weight loss and weight maintenance programs.
