Online Early Childhood Special Education Added Authorization

Accredited by the CTC, this Added Authorization, Early Childhood Special Education allows teachers with special education credentials to teach children up to age 5 with disabilities. ECSE programs can be administered in different settings, from school districts to regional centers, private childcare settings to family homes.

Authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the Added Authorization, Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE-AA) provides additional training to teachers who have already earned a Preliminary or Clear Education Specialist Credential (Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe) or a Preliminary Special Education Credential (Mild/Moderate or Extensive Needs). This additional training is designed to meet California requirements for providing early intervention and/or teaching special education in various settings. The focus is on infants through preschool-age children, and their families.

As a student, you will:

Recognize characteristics of infants and toddlers with disabilities.
Develop skills to act as service coordinators for determining eligibility and for program development.

Learn how to implement high quality instruction and intervention for infants and toddlers with disabilities.
Understand laws governing services for infants and toddlers with disabilities.
Expand your expertise in working with families of infants and toddlers with disabilities.
Master consultation and collaboration skills.
