PPS Credential in School Counseling with CWA Authorization

This CTC accredited credential program is designed for students with a master’s degree in a counseling-related field interested in a school counseling credential. Possible career options include working with California students in grades K-12 in public school settings, community college/university counselor or private/corporate career counselor.

PPSC in School Counseling Program Overview

The Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling with Child Welfare and Attendance authorization prepares you to become a school counselor, providing students the support and encouragement they need to pursue college and careers. 

As a student, you will:

  • Support students with social and developmental needs.
  • Assist students with study and organizational skills.
  • Help pupils build problem solving and coping skills.
  • Provide career and higher education advisement.
Those without a master’s degree should consider UMass Global’s Master of Arts in Counseling with Pupil Personnel Services Credential integrated program.

    Admission Requirements

    Applicants for the Master of Arts in Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling program must complete the formal application process with all required documents, which include:

    • Completed application
    • An autobiographical essay (2-3 pages)
    • 2.75 grade point average (GPA)
    • Current Resume (showing experience working with children)
    • Official transcripts from all regionally accredited institutions where baccalaureate and/or post-baccalaureate coursework was completed or attempted
    Program start dates

    Program starts three times a year in Fall 1, Spring 1, and Summer 1. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

    Stand Alone Credential

    A stand alone School Counseling Credential may be available to candidates who have earned a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Counseling, or the equivalent in a directly related field from a regionally accredited institution.
