The next session starts soon; are you ready?

FAQs for Returning to School

If you still have questions or concerns after reviewing the FAQs, email us at returningstudent@umassglobal.edu.

General

  • If you are an active student (absent fewer than two years) and you are ready to return to UMass Global, your first step is to schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor. In your academic advising appointment, you and your Advisor will look at your last Ed Plan and discuss an updated plan for return, particular to your situation. From there, you will be connected with a One Stop Specialist to discuss payment options.

    Contact information is acadadvisorOL@umassglobal.edu

If you have not attended for over two years (13 sessions or longer), you will be considered an inactive student, and you will need to contact our Enrollment Coaching Center to start the reapplication process.

To reapply after more than 12 sessions of absence, please contact the Enrollment Coaching Center at:

    Phone: 800-746-0082

    Email: Enroll@umassglobal.edu

  • Students who remain absent thirteen or more sessions (over two years) become inactive and must reapply to UMass Global in order to return. However, new transcripts typically are not needed unless students have taken new classes elsewhere during their absence. Upon return, students may be subject to the requirements of the return catalog year rather than their previous catalog year’s requirements.

The UMass Global Readmission Policy for returning after a two-year break in attendance can be found HERE.

To reapply after more than 12 sessions of absence, please contact the Enrollment Coaching Center at:

    Phone: 800-746-0082

    Email: Enroll@umassglobal.edu

  • You can find a list of our undergraduate and graduate academic policies HERE.
  • No, you do not need to resubmit previously submitted transcripts, as any transcripts previously submitted are still on file in your UMass Global student records. You only need to submit a new application to UMass Global. However, if you have taken new coursework since you last attended UMass Global, those new transcripts must be submitted along with your new university application.

More information about submitting transcripts with a new application may be found HERE.

  • Graduate and credential students have a total of seven years, from start to finish, to complete their programs. This includes any inactive enrollment time (time taken off after beginning a degree or credential). Students who suspect they may not complete within the seven-year timeframe are strongly urged to discuss this with their Academic Advisors and One Stop Specialists as soon as possible.

The Seven-Year Limitation Policy for Graduate and Credential students can be found HERE.

  • Students who are unable to return due to active duty or deployment can be absent for up to five years before becoming inactive. However, after two years of absence, they must be prepared to show evidence of why their attendance was interrupted for military reasons.

Active-duty/deployed students who have become inactive due to an absence of over five years may be required to submit a new application for readmission to the university.

Transcripts previously submitted typically do not have to be submitted again. However, any transcripts containing new/additional coursework since last attendance at UMass Global must be submitted along with new university application.

Our Interrupted Enrollment Policy for deployed and active-duty military students can be found under “Military and Veteran Services-Interrupted Enrollment,” General Information.

  • Before applying for re-admission, please contact your OneStop Student Services Specialist to ensure that your Student Account is in good standing. They will guide you with any steps you might need to take.
  • Yes! As long as you have not been academically dismissed, you will be permitted to return (with the same academic status as when you left). All students returning after a break in attendance must meet with their Academic Advisor and One Stop Specialist during the initial return steps, before registering. Students who left while in an academic probation status will additionally need to discuss with their Academic Advisor and One Stop Specialist their conditions for regaining good academic standing.

Students on academic probation who have not been enrolled for more than two years are required to submit a new application to the university. Please see UMass Global’s Interrupted Enrollment Policy for graduate, undergraduate, military and credential students, above.

  • Yes! Academically dismissed students seeking to be readmitted may do so after one year from their effective date of academic dismissal, regardless of their cumulative grade point average.

Students seeking readmission must submit a written request to the appropriate School Dean and submit a new application. The School Dean will make the re-admission decision. Students who return after academic dismissal will be placed in the same probation status they were in at the time of their dismissal.

Veteran and Active Duty Military Students should see Military and Veterans Services section of the catalog regarding academic probation and dismissal.
