Degree Conferral & Commencement Information

  • Degree conferral is an automatic process; students do not need to apply for it. It is the result of the official program evaluation from Degree Works, reflecting that all requirements are complete. Please visit the MyUMassGlobal Degree Conferral and Diploma Application page for more detailed information about the degree conferral process.
  • Commencement is held once a year; for more detailed information about participating in Commencement, please visit the MyUMassGlobal Commencement Interest & Eligibility page.

Enrollment and Degree Verification

Need to track your student loans? Provide proof of your enrollment to insurance companies, employers or lending agencies?

University of Massachusetts Global has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide Enrollment and Degree Verification certifications on its behalf, through the Web-based Student Self-Service program.

  • Current UMass Global students can print Enrollment Verifications free of charge to send to health insurers, housing providers, or anyone requiring proof of enrollment.
  • Institutions or Organizations requesting Enrollment or Degree Verification can contact The National Student Clearinghouse and, for a fee, request proof of enrollment.

Steps to Follow:

  1. Login to Self-Service
  2. Enter Secure Area
  3. Select Student
  4. Select Student Records
  5. Select Enrollment Verification and follow the instructions

Enrollment information for an upcoming term is not reported until approximately two weeks before the start of the term. Students without a username and password for Self-Service, please contact your one-stop specialist. For questions, contact service@studentclearinghouse.org.

Interrupted Enrollment

Sometimes students need to pause their studies at University of Massachusetts Global and return later. Return policies vary based on the student's situation:

If you leave in good standing and are away for 12 sessions or fewer:

  • You don't need to reapply.
  • You will keep the program requirements from when you first enrolled.

If you leave in good standing and are away for 13 sessions or more, but have no remaining course requirements:

  • You don't need to reapply.
  • You must follow the program requirements that are in place when you return.

If you leave in good standing and are away for 13 sessions or more, with remaining course requirements:

  • You are considered an inactive student and will need to reapply.
  • You must follow the program requirements that are in place when you return.

If you left for military service and received an honorable discharge:

  • You will return with the same academic standing you had before leaving.
  • Your time away cannot be longer than five years.

If your program has changed because of new rules or regulations:

  • You might need to follow the new program requirements when you come back.

If you took classes elsewhere while away, you must send official transcripts to the Division of Student Services before returning. Poor academic performance or integrity issues at another school could affect your ability to return.

Withdrawal

Withdrawal occurs when a student drops all courses they’re enrolled in during a session or term.

To withdraw from the University, you’ll need to:

  • Drop all classes in which you are currently enrolled through Self-Service in MyUMass Global.
  • Students receiving financial aid or loans must complete Loan Exit Counseling with the Financial Aid Office.
  • Contact your academic advisor to review your account. Refunds are based on the university’s Tuition Refund Schedule.
