umass global bridge 2025 mad scientist award

IRVINE, Calif. (July 30, 2025) – University of Massachusetts Global has received an Honorable Mention “Mad Scientist Award” at the 2025 Softdocs Bridge Conference, recognizing its inventive use of the Accumulate Workflow Function to streamline and enhance complex higher-education form processes. As part of the award, Softdocs will contribute $500 to a UMass Global student scholarship fund.

The recognition celebrates the work of Brian Lee, Web Development Manager at UMass Global, and his three-person team, who migrated more than 100 forms from SharePoint/InfoPath into Etrieve in under two years — serving 19,000 students and processing over 2,200 new submissions each month.

Innovative Solutions Recognized by Softdocs

In his Bridge 25 session, "How UMass Global Solves Business Challenges With the Accumulate Workflow Function," Lee outlined two core challenges his team solved through creative “off-label” uses of Softdocs Etrieve’s Accumulate step and custom dashboards:

  • On-Demand Editing of Forms – Using Accumulate as a read-only storage bin, combined with dashboard actions to “Move to Review” or “Unlock” forms without risky administrative access.
  • Complex Workflow Logic – Leveraging Accumulate as a conditional “switch” for multi-criteria and/or routing, ensuring streamlined review processes.

These changes have significantly improved processing speed, accuracy, and usability for departments such as the School of Education and the Registrar’s Office.

“Your submission highlighting the improved School of Education forms and processes — and how they increased the speed and volume of processing — truly stood out to us,” said Corey Davis, Client Success Consultant at Softdocs.
