Admissions FAQs

Apply

Yes, but the process differs depending on the requested change.

UMass Global has a fully online application at www.umassglobal.edu/apply.

No, there is no application fee to apply to UMass Global. This aligns with our commitment to affordability and to serving busy working adults, many of whom are balancing jobs, parenting, and other responsibilities while they finish their degree. By removing the fee and keeping the process easy to apply, students can take the first step toward their goals without an upfront cost or added barrier.

Your enrollment coach is your main point of contact for your application status, requirements, and next steps. They can answer most general questions about programs, deadlines, and what to submit, and will help you stay on track as you move toward enrollment.

If you have not yet been contacted by an enrollment coach, you can call (800) 746-0082 or email enroll@umassglobal.edu to be connected with someone who can support you.

Follow these steps to view your status and any remaining items:

  1. After you submit your application, look for an email from UMass Global with a link to your Application Dashboard.
  2. Go to the online application page and click RETURNING USER.
  3. Log in using the same email and password you used when you first completed your application.
  4. Once you are on the Application Dashboard, you can:
    • View your current admission status.
    • See any outstanding documents or program requirements needed to complete your application.

After you submit all required application documents, your admission review typically takes about 3–10 business days, depending on your academic level and program. You’ll receive your official admission decision by email from the Office of Admission, and then your enrollment coach will reach out to walk you through your next steps and answer any questions.

If you are admitted but decide to start in a later trimester, you may defer your start for up to one year from your original admission term. To change your start term, simply email apply@umassglobal.edu and request the “After-Admit Change of Start Term Request” form when you are ready to enroll.

Please note: if you are admitted to the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership program and do not start in the term to which you were admitted, you will need to submit a new application for a future term.

Documents can be sent to the office of admission by emailing them to apply@umassglobal.edu, or mailing them to: Office of Admission, 65 Enterprise, Suite 150, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656. Please do not email test scores or transcripts unless sent directly from the registrar’s office of your former learning institution.

Existing Credit and Transcripts

Yes, we can start processing your application with your unofficial transcripts. You may upload them to the Education History section of the online application for admission or email them to admtranscripts@umassglobal.edu. This will expedite your admission process until we receive your official transcripts.

An official transcript is one sent directly from the institution of record to University of Massachusetts Global in a sealed envelope or submitted electronically to University of Massachusetts Global from the institution of record. A transcript issued to the applicant may be accepted if it is delivered in the official unopened and sealed envelope from the institution of record.

No. Transcripts are not required for the added authorization credential programs, or the California Teacher of English Learners (CTEL) authorization.

Admission requirements vary by program. Check the current catalog for specific requirements related to your program of interest. When filling out the online application, you must list your complete academic history regardless of the transcript requirements.

  • Undergraduate: If you are applying to any of our undergraduate programs, transcripts are required from all institutions previously attended.
  • Graduate: If you are applying to one of our graduate programs, we require you to submit transcripts from the bachelor’s degree granting institution and any coursework completed or attempted concurrently with the bachelor’s program, including anything taken after the degree was awarded.

Yes, order transcripts directly from your previous institution(s). Review the Transcript Guidelines.

Some of our programs allow us to order transcripts as long as the institution allows third-party orders to be placed. These programs have added the authorization to be part of the online application.

This admission option is allowed for newly or readmitted undergraduate students. The option will ignore all academic coursework at any institution of higher education 10 or more years prior to the time of applying. It can only be used at the point of admission or readmission to University of Massachusetts Global.

UMass Global accepts general education block transfers from institutionally accredited colleges or universities in accordance with state standards and participates in the California Community College “Degree with a Guarantee” program. Use our comprehensive coursework transfer database to look up courses you've taken and determine how they may apply to UMass Global required courses.

For those who are applying to a UMass Global MyPath the process of evaluating existing credit includes:

  • Prior coursework with a minimum grade of B- or better from institutionally accredited institutions will first be evaluated against UMass Global’s credit-hour-based courses.
  • Once prior credit has been determined to be equivalent to UMass Global’s credit hour-based program, the university will then determine whether you will receive transfer credit for any of the competencies in the MyPath program.
  • Prior transfer credits must be applicable to the MyPath program and count toward its graduation requirements.

UMass Global MyPath programs are specifically designed to allow you to leverage existing skills and knowledge as you progress through your degree. Here's how it works:

  • Many competencies start with an assessment to set a knowledge baseline. The program then adapts itself according to your specific skills. You can spend more time concentrating on the areas where you need more growth and less time on topics you know well, allowing you to complete the program at a potentially quicker pace.
  • Although prior life experience cannot directly satisfy academic credit and official degree requirements, the skills that you have learned in the real world can definitely help you potentially pace through the program faster.
