Biography
Dr. Melani Natneil is the Assistant Professor of Psychology and Assistant Field Director at University of Massachusetts Global, Online campus. She has been a practicing licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and specializes in trauma-informed therapeutic modalities, specifically working with intergenerational & interracial trauma. Dr. Natneil has extensive experience in concepts related to diversity & practices from a holistic lens of view. Her doctoral dissertation highlighted the fundamental concepts of the Self-of-therapist, including the clinician’s social location, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, race, religious beliefs, spirituality, and cultural upbringings. Dr. Natneil has held multiple positions in administrative, clinical, and academic roles. Dr. Natneil’s goal as a professor and assistant director of the field is to assist students wholeheartedly while providing a safe space for growth and highlighting each student’s strength and ability to be a part of the solution in this world. Dr. Natneil’s current research focus and interests are on addressing concepts of “shame” and “guilt” and their interference with self-confidence and an individual’s level of functioning.
