Practice Assistant

Good Jobs Challenge

The University of Massachusetts Global in partnership with Mass General Brigham (MGB) will provide training and employment opportunities for individuals interested in becoming a Practice Assistant. This program is only available for current Mass General Brigham employees.

The Practice Assistant provides a supporting role, carrying out administrative tasks in a clinical setting. Responsibilities include answering phones, greeting patients, and collecting insurance cards. Candidates will display strong customer service skills and be able to multi-task. The program includes these three competencies:

  • Fundamental Business Skills and Workplace Behaviors in the Healthcare Setting
    Problem solving, fostering positive communication, and engagement are key components for high-level performance in the fast-paced medical environment.
  • Fostering Cultural Competency in Effective Customer Service Practices in the Healthcare Setting
    Creating a welcoming environment for patients, communicating effectively with empathy and understanding to build trust and meet their unique needs.
  • Communication Essentials in the Healthcare Setting
    Terminologies and best practices for effectively communicating and addressing concerns from all sides, while implementing proven effective approaches to achieving resolutions and strengthening relationships.

This program is fully funded by the Good Jobs Challenge Grant.

Current Mass General Brigham employees who are residents of Massachusetts are eligible to participate.

  • Upon completion of the training, students will earn a certificate from UMass Global and may be hired as a Practice Assistant within MGB.
  • Individuals can earn up to 9 university-approved undergraduate credits that can be applied toward an undergraduate degree program.
  • This program is funded by the Good Jobs Challenge grant as part of the American Rescue Plan and is free to qualifying employees.
  • Complete the training from the comfort of your home. This training is entirely online, designed for working professionals, with wrap-around coaching services from MGB Workforce Development.

  • Upon completion of the training, students will earn a certificate from UMass Global and may be hired as a Practice Assistant within MGB.
