Biography
Robert J. Manning is Chairman and co-Chief Executive Officer of MFS Investment (MFS) and a trustee of the MFS Funds Board. He is responsible for setting MFS’ strategy and vision.
Rob was named chairman in 2010, CEO in 2004 and co-CEO in 2015. He held the title of president and chief investment officer from 2004-2009. Prior to that, he led MFS’ fixed Income Division from 2001-2004. From 1992-2001, he held several senior fixed-income positions, including chief strategist, director of research, and portfolio manager. Rob Joined MFS in 1984 as a research analyst in the High Yield Bond Group.
He received a Master of Science degree in Finance from Boston College (1987) and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell (1984).
Rob is a member of the Investment Company Institute’s Board of Governors. He is currently on the Board of Trustees at the University of Massachusetts and a member of the University of Massachusetts Foundation Investment Committee. Rob received a Doctor of Humane Letters in May 2011 from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell, where he endowed the Manning School of Business. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Massachusetts system from 2007-2010 and was reappointed chairman of the Board in 2016.
