Preliminary Special Education Credential, Moderate/Severe

This program prepares candidates to become influential leaders within their school systems by working with students with disabilities in grades K-12 and adults up to age 22. The program is uniquely designed to combine coursework with field experience, providing candidates with vital real-world experience in special education.

Program Overview

The Preliminary Teaching Credential in Moderate to Severe Disabilities prepares teachers to become a part of an elite group dedicated to serving students who are in need of specialized instruction. The program is based on California content standards and Common Core.

As a student, you will:

  • Learn the importance of being flexible, passionate, creative, optimistic and supportive for your students.
  • Gain real-world experience through coursework and field study.
  • Impact the lives of students by adapting your instruction to fit their needs.

Compared to a brick and mortar, Brandman* professors are more open and I was able to learn better from them. The online community is what kept me going. I think this is the first time in my life where I can say I am proud of myself.

I took the Autism classes [through Brandman's* Extended Education] and found the passion of special education, which I really never thought of as an option. I finished the Autism program and enrolled in Brandman’s* Master of Special Education.  I have learned to reflect on my teaching and determine if I am reaching all students and on how to better reach any struggling students.
