Louisiana ESL Add-On

These courses provide currently licensed teachers with theories, content, and methods for teaching English Language Learners in PK-12 settings and are aligned with the standards and requirements for the Louisiana ESL Add-On. Students will not need to be admitted to the university to complete this program.

Tuition  

The tuition of these courses is funded by the Project Endorsement+ National Professional Development grant and is based on the availability of funding by the U.S. Department of Education. The grant does not cover any additional costs such as books or materials.  

Who is eligible?

Educators holding an active LA teaching license working in a Louisiana school system selected by the Louisiana Department of Education Department of English Language Learning. Complete and submit the online eligibility form to enable us to determine if you are eligible to participate in this grant-funded opportunity.

Complete and submit the online eligibility form. Once your eligibility form is submitted, our team will verify your employment and notify you via email about the next steps. This may take 2-3 weeks. After receiving this notification, you can proceed to register for your courses.

  • Tuition - $0 ($2,840 value)
  • Material fee - Approximately $100 per course

In this unique, 100% online hybrid program, participants will engage with educators from multiple districts in multiple states to:

  • Explore how historical, political, sociocultural, and educational events, federal and local laws, and local policies combine to drive the services and supports for English Learners in schools.
  • Explore theories, practices, and principles related to structuring and organizing curriculum and instruction intended to aid English language learners at all levels of English language development in meeting college and career readiness standards while simultaneously developing academic and instructional language.
  • Develop an understanding of the best practices, methods, and selection and use of print and digital materials and resources to support English Learners in developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English.
  • Explore similarities and difference between the structures of English and languages represented in the classrooms, schools, and communities of the participants.
  • Attend seven (7) Zoom classes per course
  • Document use of strategies in classroom practice
  • Participate in surveys and other grant-related data gathering activities
  • Participate in at least 2 Zoom interviews per year with grant evaluators
  • Local school systems may require a local service agreement (check with your school system contact)
