Biography
Dr. Lori R. Piowlski, Ph.D., is committed to fostering equitable opportunities for educators and advancing social-emotional learning, diversity, equity, and inclusive practices for all learners. Currently serving as the Dean of the School of Education at UMass Global, she is focused on preparing culturally proficient educators and creating educational communities that positively impact PK-12 students in an ever-evolving society. As Dean, Dr. Piowlski is dedicated to establishing long-term partnerships with companies, school districts, and innovators to deliver meaningful value to educational stakeholders. She advocates for a comprehensive, care-based model that empowers current and future teachers with workforce-ready skills, both in the classroom and the broader educational landscape, ultimately transforming learning experiences for all.
Before joining UMass Global, Dr. Piowlski held roles as Chief Academic Officer at Teach Us, Versidi at Bertelsmann, Inc. She also worked at National University, where she served as a full Professor, Chair of Teacher Education, and Acting Associate Dean. She began her higher education career at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Her academic credentials include bachelor's degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education (Mild to Moderate) from Minnesota State University, Mankato; a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix; and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration in Higher Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Dr. Piowlski’s research focuses on preparing culturally proficient teachers, inclusive teaching practices, the CalTPA/edTPA, parent engagement, and the mentoring and induction of new educators. Prior to her career in higher education, she taught elementary and special education, working with students from transitional kindergarten through grade 12. She is also a co-author of Culturally Proficient Schools, All Means ALL! and The CalTPA Handbook: Unpacking Equitable Practices in the California Teaching Performance Assessment.
