Have questions about enrollment, degree programs, financial aid, or next steps?
University of Massachusetts Global (UMass Global) has once again been recognized for its long-standing commitment to serving military-affiliated students and their families, receiving a 2026-2027 Gold Military Friendly® School Top Ten ranking from VIQTORY, an organization that connects the military community with civilian education and career opportunities. The university also earned a 2026–2027 Military Spouse Friendly® School designation, underscoring its focus on supporting both service members and the families who serve alongside them.
What the Military Friendly® School Gold Top Ten ranking means
VIQTORY’s Military Friendly® School list evaluates institutions on a range of measures that matter most to service members, veterans, and their families. UMass Global received a Gold Military Friendly® School ranking by meeting at least three benchmarks in key categories, including culture and commitment, financial aid and assistance, graduation and career outcomes, and military student support and retention. Earning a Gold Top Ten position signals that UMass Global is performing at the highest level among peer institutions in serving military-affiliated students.
In addition, UMass Global’s Military Spouse Friendly® School designation reflects the university’s efforts to account for the unique challenges military spouses face, such as frequent moves, unpredictable schedules, and career disruptions.
A mission rooted in serving those who serve
UMass Global’s military-friendly culture is rooted in its history. The university’s legacy of educating service members dates back to 1958 at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Orange County, California, where its leaders first partnered with the military to expand access to higher education. That founding purpose continues today through fully online programs designed to move with students wherever they are stationed, deployed, or reassigned.
UMass Global’s continued commitment to our military community
Today, UMass Global serves more than 20,000 students each year, including over 1,000 active-duty service members, reservists, military dependents, and veterans in its undergraduate and graduate programs. More than 7 percent of students are military-affiliated, including active duty, the Reserve, veterans, and their dependents. This strong military presence shapes a learning environment where many students share similar experiences and goals related to service, transition, and career advancement.
