Master’s Degree and Administrative Credential Overview

This master’s degree program with preliminary administrative services credential prepares students through online learning and fieldwork to become a California elementary, middle, or high school principal who oversees daily school activities, curricula, and staff. 

As a student, you will:

  • Focus on an array of topics to help you advance your school system and propel your career with 21st-century skills.
  • Qualify for other positions such as instructional coordinators or other school district administrative positions.
  • Apply what you learn through fieldwork included in every course to help build a portfolio of experience throughout the entire program.
  • Meet the requirements set by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Program Standards, including those that align to the highest national standards in leadership.
  • Be qualified for a Certificate of Eligibility or Preliminary Administrative Services Credential with successful completion of the program.

    Admission Requirements

    Applicants for this credential program must complete the formal application process with all required documents, which include:

    • Completed application
    • Resume
    • Valid California clear prerequisite credential
       
    • Letter of Intent
    • Proof of a passing score on the CBEST or any CTC approved basic skills tests or a valid California Credential that required passage of basic skills to receive the credential
    California Residency

    This program is only available to California residents.

    Program Start Dates

    Program starts three times per year in Fall I, Spring I, or Summer I. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

    Letter of Good Standing

    If the candidate is not currently employed in a position requiring a “basic” CTC credential, he/she must submit a letter identifying the school and principal under whom field work assignments will be completed
