Students in uniform, veterans and military families can rely on UMass Global to be Military Friendly
IRVINE, Calif. (March 13, 2022) – University of Massachusetts Global repeated as a Silver honoree in Viqtory’s annual Military Friendly Schools Awards. Evaluators examine how well U.S. colleges and universities perform in six categories relevant to military students and UMass Global surpassed the threshold of military friendliness in all six.
Viqtory defines “Military Friendly” in terms of how well an institution lives up to its commitment to serving students in uniform, veterans, and their spouses. In the 2023-24 rankings, UMass Global recorded its highest score in the “Financial Aid & Assistance” category, followed by “Culture & Commitment.”
UMass Global has its origins in the 1958 delivery of on-base courses at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Orange County. The university has a demonstrated track record for providing access to high-quality and relevant academic programs, specialized student support systems, and career counseling for active military and their families and veterans. Today, as a private nonprofit affiliate of the University of Massachusetts, UMass Global provides online courses to military students serving anywhere in the United States and overseas.
The university’s Military & Veterans website provides information for students who are serving in the military, veterans and military families. UMass Global participates in several Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs programs. These include Tuition Assistance, Montgomery and Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Community College of the Air Force’s General Education Mobile (GEM) program, Army Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL), and MyCAA Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts.
Viqtory, which concentrates on military audiences and also produces a list of Military Friendly Employers, revealed the new rankings in March 2023 and plans to publish the list in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. Viqtory’s evaluations are based on federal data, surveys of colleges and universities and input from veterans.
