Military and Veteran Education Benefits

  • Although choosing the right degree program depends on your unique goals, there are military-friendly pathways. Those pursuing a bachelor’s may consider psychology, criminal justice or even a customizable degree like applied studies. Popular grad programs include our MBA or master’s in leadership, which UMass Global specifically designed to transfer in military training.
  • No. UMass Global does not charge for applying for admission. Reduced tuition rates are available for military students and dependents and fees may vary for every student based on their academic journey and program of choice.
  • You’ll first work with the VA to determine the benefits you are eligible for, then submit your request through their system. It generally takes 30 days to receive a decision and certificate of eligibility (COE) from the VA. Submit this document upon applying to maximize your education benefit at UMass Global.
  • Your military coursework, training and experience can convert to academic credit utilizing the American Council on Education (ACE) Credit Evaluation guidelines. We also designed our master’s in organizational leadership to allow military leaders to transfer up to 15 credits toward the degree. Full Details
  • The VA has it’s own process for leveraging and tracking fund requests and disbursements. If you signed up for direct deposit, then they will pay directly to your bank account 7 to 10 days after you verify enrollment with UMass Global. View all VA education benefits FAQs
  • If you’re eligible for 100% of Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits, the VA will cover the full cost of your tuition and fees up to the current national maximum amount. To determine your allowance, multiply the percentage of benefits you’re eligible for by this number. Get current rates to calculate yours.
  • Yes. If you need to supplement financing over the national maximum amount for VA education benefits, you can still apply for scholarships and federal funding through our financial aid resources. Your One Stop specialist will help you with the best options for you and your family.
  • Depending on when you discharged from the military, the GI Bill allows you to leverage funding for 10-15 years. But there are exceptions which may qualify you for an extension of these education benefits. See if this applies to you.
  • UMass Global proudly participates in multiple spouse and dependent programs including MyCAA, Survivors’ and Dependents Education Assistance (Chapter 35) and Troops to Teachers. We also encourage you to research scholarship opportunities such as the Fry Scholarship which awards up to 36 months of benefits at 100%. See all programs.
