Justine Rangel

Professor Rangel has over 20 years of experience working in the Public Mental Health sector. Her areas of specialization include substance use disorder treatment, psychiatric nursing, employee training and development, and program management. Her work experience includes working for a governmental organization, where she was responsible for ensuring cultural competence was imbedded across the departments system of care, overseeing the training needs of department employees, and ensuring worker shortages were addressed through innovative retention and recruitment efforts.

Before taking on a management role Professor Rangel began her social work career providing direct service to individuals living with a substance use disorder. Professor Rangel joined Umass Global as an adjunct instructor in 2013, in 2017 she was promoted to Assistant Professor in the BASW program where she teaches various practicum and didactic courses.

Professor Rangel holds a master’s degree in Social work, Public Administration, and Nursing. She is currently a registered nurse and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In 2023, Professor Rangel returned to school at UMass Global where she is working on a Doctor of Nursing Degree. Professor Rangel’s professional interests include the intersection of social work and health care.
