Biography
Dr. Jessica Bogunovich received a BSEd with a second major in Teaching Mathematics from Montana State University. She acquired a MAEd with an emphasis in Curriculum and Design from Chapman University. She further received an EdD in Administration and Leadership from the University of Phoenix. Dr. Bogunovich has a second Master's degree in Psychology and Mental/Behavioral Health. Dr. Bogunovich has over 20 years teaching experience. She was a K-12 school teacher for 13 years in Compton, CA (inner-city Los Angeles), where she taught kindergarten, first grade, and middle school. She was a curriculum specialist for the English Language Development (ELD) department for the district, middle school Math and ELD Curriculum Director, and held other administrative positions. Additionally, she wrote curricula for various entities, designed assessments, constructed pacing guides and master plans, mentored teachers in the BTSA program and those on improvement plans, and created professional development teachers and leaders. She was a professional development provider and Regional Master Teacher Leader in Math and Science through the University of California Irvine.
Dr. Bogunovich has been in higher education for the past 15 years, with the past 10 being full time. She has a wide-variety of experience from public universities to Christian universities to private for-profit universities, but she found her calling when invited to teach math and science (STEM) at Brandman University, now UMass Global.
Currently, Dr. Bogunovich is an Assistant Professor at UMass Global in the School of Education. She is the Program Chair of the MAT program. She is primarily responsible for working with teacher candidates in the single and multiple subject credentialing programs, specializing in the area of mathematics. She is involved in the CTEL program, mentoring, curriculum development, and has many other roles.
Dr. Bogunovich’s research interests include STEM/STEAM education, closing the achievement gap for minority students, effective strategies for English language learners, the infusion of arts education, and urban education. Outside of work, Dr. Bogunovich enjoys time with her family and three amazing grandchildren.
