Program Overview

In this course, you will explore the powerful impact that strong connections between families and schools can have on student learning, engagement, and overall success. Research consistently shows that when families are actively involved in their children’s education, students demonstrate improved academic performance, better attendance, and more positive attitudes toward school. You will examine key elements that foster meaningful family-school partnerships, including creating a welcoming and inclusive school environment, building trust through consistent and positive communication, and using intentional strategies to encourage family engagement. Throughout the course, you will study effective models of family involvement and learn how to adapt them to fit your school’s unique culture and needs. As a culminating project, you will design a detailed plan for a family literacy event aimed at promoting reading at home, strengthening school-community ties, and celebrating the role families play in supporting literacy development.
