Esri's ArcNews: A university that speaks the language of spatial data
ArcNews featured a Thought Leader column from UMass Global Chancellor Gary Brahm and Faculty Assembly President Sheila Lakshmi Steinberg discussing how data literacy is an essential skill for modern professionals.
“Data is the language of the 21st century—the way professionals in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors communicate with each other to make intelligent, evidence-based decisions. An analyst who can translate raw data into comprehensible information is an invaluable asset to any organization,” Brahm and Steinberg explain in the introduction to their column.
In addition to her role as a faculty leader, Steinberg also serves as professor of GIS, social and environmental sciences. The op-ed outlines how UMass Global teaches students who are interested in using data as a tool for professional communications.
Esri, a developer of geographic information systems software that supports UMass Global programs imparting geospatial analysis skills, publishes ArcNews.
