Biography
Carol Anderson-Woo has worked with the EDD program since it began in 2012. She became an associate professor with the program in the school of education in the spring of 2021. She currently works as part of the core planning team for the EDD program and serves as a dissertation chair. The previous year she served as a senior lecturer with the program. Dr. Woo has also been an adjunct faculty and a cohort mentor with the program.
Prior to her current work with the University of Massachusetts Global, Dr. Woo spent 37 years working in a K-12 school district in the central valley serving as a bilingual teacher, elementary principal and a director in the educational services department at the district. In all those roles she focused on developing programs and services to support English learners. Her work in developing a district program to support long-term English learners was recognized in Laurie Olsen’s report Secondary School Programs Designed to Address the Language Needs and Academic Gaps of Long Term English Learners (2012). Dr. Woo also oversaw all state and local assessments for the school district, managed the district’s data warehouse, and provided oversaw a variety of accountability and continuous improvement efforts. She was recognized as the Management Employee of the Year for Tracy Unified in 2007 and with as the Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year for Region VII of ACSA in 2013.
From 2009 – 2018, Dr. Woo worked with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialling serving as subject advisory panel member for the CSET English language development exam, as an advisory committee member for the CTEL (California Teachers of English Learners), and as a reviewer for subject matter preparation programs for world language – English language development programs.
Dr. Woo has also served as an adjunct instructor at Teachers College of San Joaquin and at University of the Pacific since 2004. She has taught courses in both teacher preparation (focusing on English learner education) and school administration (a variety of leadership topics).
