Vanessa Kalis, Associate Professor  

Biography

 

Dr. Kalis is a board-certified nurse practitioner in adult acute care and pediatric acute care who specializes in intensive care, cardiology, congenital heart disease and cardiac electrophysiology. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her Master of Science in Nursing with a dual concentration as an acute care nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist is from University of California at Los Angeles. She went on to earn her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Touro University in Nevada. After earning her DNP, she earned a post-doctoral certificate in pediatric acute care in 2013 and later earned the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator certification in 2016.


Dr. Kalis is an associate professor and director of the Adult-Geriatric Acute Care DNP program in the Marybelle and S. Paul Musco School of Nursing and Health Professions. During her tenure at University of Massachusetts Global, she has taught classes in the in the RN-BSN program, BSN-DNP program and the post-master's to DNP program in addition to mentoring DNP students on their Clinical Scholarly Projects. She currently teaches pathophysiology, role transition and the acute care specialty courses. She also continues to work as an acute care nurse practitioner. Her clinical practice includes caring for patients in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit as well as managing cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology patients in the office.  Her research interests include cardiac and pulmonary disorders, moving evidence into practice, remote technology practices for health care, and using technology and high fidelity in nursing education.
